...and here's the finished product. My Dad's new Windows 7 PC for general office and internet duties. Capable of playing 1080p HD video if required.
Sandy Bridge Celeron G530,
Asus P8H61-MX,
2x4GB Patriot Signature PC10600,
250GB Seagate Barracuda,
Be Quiet! Straight Power 400W 92%,
housed in a Fractal Core 1000.
Total hardware cost approx £250. Nothing too fancy, just quality low power components. Runs silent, except the Barracuda which is very noisy indeed. Chassis has a neat removable vertical hard disk plane, but this design doesn't lend itself well to reducing vibrations at all. May try to dampen it somehow, but if it were me, I'd just install an SSD. I do have a 2.5" drive that I might not need any more, so could pass that on to him instead.
